THE BACKGROUND
– Headquartered out of south India, our client has a diverse supplier and customer base spread across
– the country.
– The FMCG (branded food) industry is extremely price sensitive with aggressive speed to market schedules
– needing very wide and deep distribution logistics network capable of delivering across the country.
– As a growing FMCG brand with thin gross margins, driving up volumes was a high priority so as to drive
– logistics cost efficiencies as a percentage of COGS
THE CHALLENGE – COVID CHANGED IT ALL
– With reverse migration to tier 2,3,4 towns and hinterland, domestic food consumption has been soaring.
– Ability to deliver across the metros and tier 2,3,4 towns were the need of the hour.
– With Covid disrupting the supply chains, the FCL mode was over-dimensioned and the part load
– movement was over-priced for our client’s product category. Consolidation of smaller shipments (LCLs)
– from a multi-supplier network and delivery to multiple cities became the order of the day.
– Time to market was critical to drive high “On shelf availability” across the retail network.
– High rate of damages in-transit, when shipped through part load service providers was a serious cause
– of concern.
THE SOLUTION
– Consolidation of multiple LCL shipments in a single container ensured speed, safety, minimal handling
– and On-time deliveries.
– A mix of 20-, 24- and 32-feet SXL high cube fleet was deployed by us along with detailed route optimisation
– planning for every load out.
– Each Full Container consolidation used to carry up to 3 to 6 deliveries to multiple cities in the same region.
– Multiple handling and transhipments minimised with time to market improved over 20%
